The Don Geronimo Show - September 19, 2012
Don starts the morning by telling us about his post-birthday show fun, including his brand new gift: a handmade walking stick made by Janet's dad Jim, that has a Packer tap on the top, and is Don's new tool for ordering Janet around. The guys also talk about the passing of Steve Sabol, the visionary of NFL Films, at the age of 69. Don decides to call Abe Vigoda to hear his thoughts, and to make sure he's still alive.
After we hear Little Joe's JFK impersonation, and Don tells us his Rich Eisen "lose my number" story, after hearing a clip of Eisen getting emotional over Steve Sabol's passing. We then hear the iconic "Autumn Wind" NFL Films clip, written about the Oakland Raiders. After Don tells us a story about an L.A. chef who killed his wife, then boiled her for 4 days, and trashed the remains, we play one of Don's favorite games- "Bark Off For Cash." After one of the most epic "Bark" games ever, we get a visit from Herm Edwards, former NFL player and coach, and ESPN analyst. Herm talks about the passing of Steve Sabol, and his influence on the way NFL games are covered these days, the "Miracle at the Meadowlands," his take on the New York Giants/ Tampa Bay kneel down controversy, and his crazy socks! He also hears Frank Caliendo's impersonation of him yesterday!
After Herm, we get a visit from legendary coach and Hall Of Fame NFL player Mike Ditka. Mike also tells us about how much he respected Steve Sabol, how his '85 Bears would've handled social media today, talks a bit about Jim McMahon's appearance in Sports Illustrated, and the best players he coached, like Walter Payton and Mike Singletary.
We also hear a few clips, including an 8 year old who got her tongue stuck in a water bottle, Dr. Phil on Access Hollywood, and Anderson Cooper and Sharon Osbourne's take on the Dina Lohan Dr. Phil interview. We also hear a new erotic story from a loyal listener in China, about Noodles, and read by Phantom. It's then time for the "Phantom News Hour." Today, Phantom tells us about Lindsay Lohan being arrested for hit and run, Jon Stewart to debate Bill O' Reilly, the top 10 country folk on Twitter, and how old is middle aged?" And of course, Don wraps everything up with a caller 100!
