EL DORADO COUNTY — Two people died and four others were injured in a head-on collision on Highway 50 near South Lake Tahoe on Thanksgiving night, authorities confirmed Friday.
The California Highway Patrol said the collision between a Toyota Sequoia and a Chevy Traverse happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. on the eastbound side of the highway near Audrain Way.
The driver of the Chevy — an 84-year-old man from Wellington, Nevada — and a passenger in the Toyota — a 50-year-old woman from Fremont, California — died from their injuries. The driver of the Toyota and three other passengers in it suffered major to moderate injuries, the CHP said.
As a result of the collision, there was an hours-long backup on Highway 50 on Thanksgiving night.
