Texas Fugitive Wanted in Wife's Beating Arrested In Oroville
OROVILLE (CBS13) — A man wanted in Texas for the brutal attack of his common-law wife was tracked down and arrested in Oroville on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Marshalls Service.
Roy Allen Ostergren, 34, is alleged to have used a baseball beat to beat his wife in the early-morning hours of Dec. 12 in Ector County, Texas. He then allegedly wrapped a chain around her neck and dragged her behind his truck, causing serious injury.
After his wife was hospitalized, Ostergren reportedly snuck into her hospital room and assaulted her again.
He then fled and an arrest warrant was issued on Tuesday by the Ector County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators say they developed leads that Ostergren had fled to the Oroville area.
Deputy U.S. marshals and fugitive task force officers received a tip that Ostergren was possibly staying at a motel off of Highway 70 in Oroville.
While conducting surveillance at about 9:30 a.m., officers noticed a man matching Ostergren's description in the passenger seat of a vehicle that passed by. Marshalls deputies and task force officers followed the vehicle to a Valero gas station near Montgomery Street and Feather River Boulevard, and Ostergren was arrested without incident.
The driver was detained and released after it was confirmed he had no ties to the alleged crime, the Marshalls Service said.
Ostergren was booked into the Butte County Jail awaiting extradition back to Ector County Texas to face his charges.
