Teen's Recovery From Coma Described As Miraculous
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Some are calling it a miraculous recovery for a local teen behind a religious phone app -- even his doctors call this miraculous because of prayer.
One after another, the prayers came pouring in.
"Dear God, your son Allen Wright is in need of your healing touch. Thanks for sending him here to create a way to communicate with you," said Tod Wright, Allen Wright's dad.
Allen Wright gained notoriety in 2009 when he created the "Note to God App".
But little did he know that nearly two years later people would post prayers for him.
We asked Allen if he thought prayer helped him come out of his coma.
"Yeah, I don't remember anything about it," said Allen.
Struck by a hit-and-run driver, the 18-year-old police cadet was comatose for eight days.
Doctors gave him only a 30 to 40 percent chance of survival until last week.
"He actuall did a thumbs up. I can honestly say I was so grateful and thankful to take him home like that," said Tod.
But Allen continued to make what doctors call a miraculous and rapid recovery for someone suffering from extensive brain injury. One doctor says he's still scratching his head at Allen's prognosis.
"To see him at this point now? Awestruck," said the Doctor.
The family now credits all the prayers that poured into Allen's app. On a regular week, they say only about 500 people downloaded the app. The week following Allen's accident, 9,000 people downloaded A Note to God.
"Ironic is the word, or or…I don't have words for it, but I don't know where we would be without it.
Allen's sister says she prays that whoever hit her brother will turn themselves in to police.
