Teen Stabbing Suspect Faces Trial As Adult

VACAVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) – A 14-year-old suspect learned Tuesday he will be tried as an adult for allegedly breaking into a Vacaville home and stabbing a teen girl and her baby brother.

Alexander Cervantes sat handcuffed while prosecutors announced their intentions to try the teen suspect as an adult for rape, torture and attempted homicide.

Police said Cervantes sexually assaulted the 13-year-old girl and stabbed her more than 30 times, and then stabbed her 18-month-old brother more than 10 times. The teen girl was able to escape with her brother to a neighbor's house, which likely saved both of their lives, police said.

The victim's father said he is still in shock and is staying by his daughter's side in the hospital while she slowly recovers.

"I just can't believe that somebody could do this to my daughter," the father said. "God's going to deal with him. He's going to get his punishment."

The teen girl is already talking and walking around her hospital, a recovery her father calls miraculous.

"My main thing is to focus on my daughter and helping her get through this," he said.
