Teen Shot In The Head Returns Home After Months At Hospital

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A family is celebrating today as 13-year-old Alize Valdez makes her way home.

She has spent the last 3 months in the hospital recovering from shooting back in October. Alize was at home on the couch when several gunshots were fired.

One bullet pierced through the living room wall and hit Alize in the head.

Now her family and friends are just grateful that she is alive.

"She's such a miracle and I just wanted to show other people what God can do for you," said friend Lydia Idarra. "He brought her back to us. They wanted to pull the plug, but her grandma just wouldn't do it and I'm so glad that she didn't 'cause she's just a blessing to the community."

Back in December, charges were dropped against suspect Sonny Rudy Martinez.

Investigators did not have enough evidence to tie him to the shooting. And even if police wanted to refill charges against Martinez, the February deadline has come and gone.

West Sacramento Police are still looking for more evidence that may lead them to the person who took those shots.
