Teen Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting Identified
NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. (CBS13) – A teen shot and killed during a police pursuit Thursday morning has been identified.
The Sacramento County Coroner's office says the victim is 17-year-old Montrey Hodge.
Hodge died Thursday morning after being shot by a police officer.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said an officer with the Twin Rivers Police Department spotted the teen in Stizek Park just before 11:00 a.m. and thought he may be truant.
When the officer approached, the teen fled on Stephen Drive and was cutting through a residential yard to turn onto Channing Drive when a gun jostled free of the teen's waistband and fell onto the ground, investigators said.
The pursuing officer drew his weapon and ordered the teen to stop, but authorities said the subject ran back for the gun and reached out to grab it.
The officer fired several shots, wounding the teen. Officers performed CPR on the suspect until paramedics arrived, but emergency personnel pronounced the suspect dead at the scene.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending a Sheriff's Department investigation, which is standard procedure after any on-duty shooting.
