Tebow Said He Can Be Effective, But Which Teams Could Use Him?
Tim Tebow joined CBS Sports Radio's The Doug Gottlieb Show on Wednesday and said he thinks he can still be an effective quarterback in the National Football League.
Tebow hasn't played in the league since 2012 but said in the interview that he's in the best shape of his life.
"I think I'm still young. I still feel really good. So is that something that I still feel like I could be an effective quarterback in the NFL? Yeah, I really do feel like I could be."
After hearing him talk about playing in the NFL, it seemed like an appropriate time to look at the teams who could use his service.
However, keep in mind, his value to a certain team could revolve around aspects other than his skill, or lack there of, at the quarterback position.
Here are three teams which could find value in Tebow for the 2016-17 season.
1. Jacksonville Jaguars - Spike In Fan Attendence
The Jags haven't had a winning record since 2007. The team has been in rebuild mode for years and years. Combine that with the pure heat and humidity in Florida, fans have plenty of reason not to show up to games.
They ranked 27th out of the 32 teams in attendance last season.
So how can Tebow, a backup quarterback at best, help the attendance problem? Having him on the roster will bring swarms of people to the games.
The Jags already have its starting quarterback for now and the future in Blake Bortles, but just having Tebow on the sidelines would be a huge draw.
Tebow is a legend in that area because of the time he spent with the Florida Gators in college. College football in that area may be a bigger draw than the NFL.
If Jacksonville starts off slow in 2016, they may need something out of the ordinary to bring in extra fans to EverBank Field.
2. San Francisco 49ers - Capable Of Playing In College Style Offense
Chip Kelly, the Niners' head coach, undoubtedly runs a college style offense. He like his offense to play at a fast pace and his quarterback needs to be able to, not only keep up, but be able to run plays through the read-option.
That is Tebow's exact skill set.
Just to clarify, Tebow is not a traditional quarterback. His throwing motion has never been successful at the NFL level and his accuracy is not up to par.
While Tebow would not be able to play in an offense similar to the Packers' or Patriots, he may have just enough skill to play in the uptempo style of Kelly's offense.
How much risk would the Niners be taking anyways? Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert are both below average quarterbacks.
With the rest of the NFC West having very strong defenses, the Niners offense is going to struggle. Take a chance with Tebow, bring in a few more fans, and hey, it might just work out.
3. Dallas Cowboys - Leadership
A player doesn't have to be the starting quarterback to be a leader on the team. Throughout his career, in college and the NFL, Tebow has always been known to have an incredible work ethic and is a positive guy in the locker room.
The Cowboys need some of that right now.
Jerry Jones has no problem signing people with off the field issues, locker room problems, and lazy players. That can divide a locker room.
Tebow's personality is hit and miss. But one thing that can't be denied is that he shows up every day to practice and to the games and gives it his all.
He won't get into any off the field issues, and that kind of role model is needed in the Cowboys' locker room.
