Teacher Pleads No Contest To Attempted Statutory Rape
MARTINEZ, Calif. (AP) -- A Brentwood high school teacher accused of offering a student $200 to take her clothes off and then meeting her for sex has pleaded no contest to attempted statutory rape.
Prosecutors told the Contra Costa Times on Tuesday that 39-year-old Darin Duane Price's plea was part of a deal that requires him to serve 90 days in jail. Price, a former math teacher and girls' basketball coach at Heritage High School. entered the plea last week, days before he was scheduled to go on trial.
Police say the 17-year-old student told investigators she was in Price's classroom for a makeup math test in January 2010 when he asked her to undress and laid down two $100 bills.
Police say they used the girl's cellphone the next day to arrange a meeting for sex, and arrested Price when he showed up.
