Tahoe Ski Resorts Using Early Snow And Deals To Attract Skiers
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – This week's wet storm brought more than 3 feet of snow to the Sierra, and forecasters predict the ski-friendly weather will continue.
Haunted by the dismal ski season of 2011, skiers and resort operators alike optimistic this season will be better. Resorts are working hard to make heading up the hill as attractive as ever.
Tahoe-based resort operators say they're cranking up their state-of-the-art snowmaking systems to guarantee season conditions continue to the mid-November opening. And with the promise of snow, at least for now, resorts are offering some deals to get skiers on the slopes and into their hotel rooms.
They've also invested about $100 million in upgrades they say will help make skiing attractive to families, ski parties and those seeking some nightlife and even big-name entertainment.
Getting to the mountains is getting easier, after the Reno-Tahoe Airport completed a $27 million upgrade and added daily nonstop flights from Ontario.
