Pipe Bomb Suspect Arrested After SWAT Standoff
FAIRFIELD (CBS13) – Authorities carefully searched a home for explosives after arresting two men following a standoff that lasted for hours Saturday.
Fairfield SWAT officers locked down the neighborhood at around 1:00 p.m. after attempting to arrest 29-year-old Daniel Garcia in his Quincy Lane home in connection with pipe bomb discoveries in recent months.
Investigators said Garcia detonated an explosive device under a parked car in May, and a second pipe bomb was allegedly found at his home Thursday when he wasn't home. Police are also investigating whether Garcia is responsible for a bomb wrapped in newspaper that maimed a Vacaville man in March.
Officers tried to coax Garcia and another man out of the home for seven and a half hours Saturday before the two men surrendered without incident. A second occupant in the home, described as a 42-year-old man, was arrested for obstruction of justice.
Neighbors described Garcia as strange and paranoid, displaying increasingly bizarre and aggressive behavior over recent months.
"Christmas Eve, at 3 a.m., he ran outside [naked], streaked… screaming military chants," said one neighbor.
Authorities remained on scene after the standoff ended to search for dangerous devices inside Garcia's home.
