Police Arrest Modesto Suspect After 3-Hour Standoff

MODESTO (CBS13) -- Officers found an attempted homicide suspect after a three-hour search of a Modesto neighborhood Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

SWAT teams and a number of police officers evacuated some homes near West Hatch Road and Ustick Road after losing sight of the 36-year-old suspect, who has been identified as Joel Bejaran.

Authorities say Bejaran fled after they tried to take him into custody for an attempted murder. Bejaran is a known member of the Norteño gang, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident after he was found hiding in a residence's crawlspace.
