Sutter County Dispatcher Accused Of Embezzling

YUBA CITY (CBS13) -- A dispatcher has been accused of stealing thousands of dollars from fellow deputies and even taking money meant for student tuition, according to authorities.

Court documents filed against Annette Medeiros allege that the county employee skimmed up to $10,000 between January 2009 and January 2010 from the Sutter Sheriff's Deputy Association, the deputy's union, where she served as treasurer.

One of the funds Medeiros is accused of stealing from was the Sheriff's Association scholarship fund for students. The full extent of the alleged thefts may not have been uncovered, according to the Sutter County District Attorney's office.

"It takes a period of time to figure out how big it is," said Assistant District Attorney Jana McClung, "what the time frames and how much money is actually involved in the process."

Three cars were parked in front of Medeiros' home Friday, but nobody answered the door when CBS13 visited the residence.

Medeiros is out of jail on her own recognizance and is scheduled to be back in court to face felony charges later this month.
