UPDATE: Suspicious Suitcase In Citrus Heights Destroyed; Surrounding Streets Reopened
CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) - Police in Citrus Heights have reopened all lanes of Greenback Avenue and San Juan Avenue after a suspicious object nearby was safely destroyed.
At around 10:13 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to the report of a package in a parking lot of the store at 6124 San Juan Avenue near Greenback Lane, according to Citrus Heights police Sgt. David Moranz. Police found an unattended suitcase and asked Sacramento County Sheriff's Department Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to destroy the object in case it contained an explosive device.
Police had closed Greenback Lane in all directions between San Juan and Mariposa Avenues. At 2 p.m., officers announced the roads had reopened.
Nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution.
