Suspected Killer Confirmed Dead In Car Crash
MODESTO (CBS13) - Modesto police have closed their case against one of Modesto's most wanted murder suspects after they confirmed he died in a car accident earlier this year.
Samuel Esequel Esquibel, 31, of Modesto died in a car accident in Cuidad Guzman Jalisco Mexico on May 26. The District Attorney's office for the State of Jalisco, Mexico provided U.S. Federal authorities with supporting documents of the accident and death of Esquibel. Once the documentation was validated by U.S. Federal authorities, they notified the Modesto Police Department and Stanislaus County District Attorney's office confirming the identity and death of Esquibel.
Esquibel was wanted for the 2010 murder of Ernie Hernandez, 37, in the parking lot of Humphrey's College on August 14, 2010. Hernandez was found with multiple stab wounds and later died.
"We are relieved that the family of Mr. Hernandez will have closure and no longer be living in fear that Esquibel is at large." said Sergeant Terry Seese, who was the lead investigator in this case. "This was a tragic and senseless murder and all indications were that Mr. Hernandez was truly an innocent victim, at the wrong place and time."
