Suspected Copper Thieves Arrested Early Friday Morning In Rancho Cordova
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - Two men are in custody for allegedly trying to steal copper from several businesses in Rancho Cordova, and in the process, causing thousands of dollars in damage.
At around 4 a.m. Friday, Rancho Cordova police officers responded to a security guard's call about two men on a roof of a business at 9900 Horn Road, according to a police press release. John Whitlock, 30, and Casey Solano, 24, were caught by police with a bag of copper and tools possibly used in the attempted theft.
Officers later discovered damaged air conditioning units of several businesses in the area. One business owner estimated tens of thousands of dollars in damage to the units.
Whitlock is facing charges of criminal conspiracy, grand theft of copper material and violation of probation. Solano, accused of the same crimes, is facing charges of possession of stolen property and tools used in the attempted theft.
Whitlock and Solano were booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail where they are being held on $20,000 bail.
