Suspect Shot By Police In Drug Store Parking Lot

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – An officer opened fire after a man allegedly tried to accelerate his vehicle toward police in a busy shopping center parking lot Saturday afternoon, leaving the suspect wounded but alive.

The Sacramento Police Department said officers responded to reports of a suicidal man in the parking lot of a FoodMaxx near the intersection of Florin Road and Franklin Bouelvard and discovered that the man had an arrest warrant for robbery.

When officers tried to arrest the 26-year-old man, he resisted and backed up his car toward an officer's patrol car.

Witnesses said an officer fired several quick shots, striking the suspect.

"He was hit at least one time and is being treated right now for his injury," according to Sacramento Police Officer Laura Peck.

The suspect, who has not been identified, is reportedly in stable condition and is expected to survive. Police have not said whether the suspect was armed.
