Person Of Interest In Rancho Cordova Murder Arrested
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (CBS13) -- Authorities located and arrested a man called a "person of interest" in the murder of a Rancho Cordova woman found half-naked on New Year's Day.
Demetrius Shaffer, 31, was taken into custody at the Sacramento County Health Center on Tuesday night, according to authorities.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department had sought Shaffer in connection with the death of 37-year-old Rajeet Singh, who was found strangled near light rail tracks a short distance away from a poker room.
Shaffer was reportedly one of the last people to be seen with Singh at the poker room.
"Mr. Shaffer is a registered sex offender outside of the area," said Deputy Jason Ramos. "He's actually a suspect in a sexual assault that occurred in our jurisdiction some time last year."
Shaffer did not resist arrest.
