Suspect In Old Sacramento Shooting Released From Hospital, Booked In Jail
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Carlito Montoya, the 22-year-old man accused in the deadly Old Sacramento shooting on New Year's Eve was booked into Sacramento County Jail Saturday night.
Also behind bars are a suspected criminal couple accused of starting the brawl that led to that shooting. And now CBS13 has learned one of them has a violent past.
Montoya was released from the hospital Saturday after being shot by security guard Stefan Walton on Monday at the Sports Corner Café at 1030 2nd Street. He now joins Charles Fowler-Scholz and his wife Amber Scholz, who have also been charged in connection with the crime.
"Turn that off and get out of here. Go somewhere else, find your (expletive) somewhere else," said a man neighbors identified as Sholz's stepfather. "You're trespassing. Get the hell out of here now."
The couple has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Officers say Amber instigated the fight, while Charles participated in the fight that led to Montoya allegedly opening fire and taking the lives of bar patron Gabriel Cordova, and bar employee Daniel Ferrier, as well as wounding Cordova's wife, Christine, and Walton.
"I wasn't surprised, because I was told he was nothing but bad news," Charles' neighbor said.
The neighbor wished to remain anonymous, but said Charles often caused problems, listening to music loudly, and would respond to complaints with racial slurs.
"He would cuss me out, call me the n-word," the neighbor said. "I was praying he would go away. It's just sad that it had to turn out this way."
All three suspects are expected to appear in court on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 1:30 p.m.
