Suspect In Deadly Tow Truck Driver Hit-And-Run On I-80 Arrested
NEWCASTLE (CBS13) - The man accused of hitting a tow truck driver on Interstate 80 and then driving away has been arrested, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers arrested Christopher Michael Keller, 25, of Newcastle at 6:30 p.m. Sunday for allegedly hitting and killing 30-year-old David Garfield Robinson Jr. on March 20. Robinson was on the side of the freeway near Newcastle when the incident happened.
Several witnesses stopped to aid Robinson, but the driver of the car that hit him drove off.
After getting several tips, officers were led to the Foresthill area.
There officers found a 1991 Silver Honda Accord with major windshield damage and located Keller.
"This afternoon a couple of officers went up there and located the vehicle in the driveway under a tarp. The officer subsequently inspected the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle came out. Through the investigation and questioning they determined that he was the driver," CHP Officer David Martinez said.
Keller was taken into custody without incident. He now faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. His bail is set at $75,000.
