Suspect In Attack On Principal Ordered To Stay Away From School

STOCKTON (AP) -- A Stockton mother charged with assaulting her son's elementary school principal has been ordered to stay away from the school and the principal.

A judge set those conditions on Wednesday, as he ordered 29-year-old Pami Gibbs' released from San Joaquin County Jail. Gibbs was making her first court appearance since her arrest in the Monday attack.

Authorities say Gibbs repeatedly punched Fillmore Elementary Principal Evangelina Ramos after Ramos said Gibbs' son couldn't wear a T-shirt with skulls on it. Ramos suffered a broken nose.

Gibbs' grandfather, Bill Black, told The Record of Stockton his granddaughter was upset because Ramos refused to waive the school's policy requiring students to wear uniforms after Gibbs told her she couldn't afford them.

Black also said his granddaughter had not taken her depression medication, which may have affected her mood.

Gibbs is scheduled to be back in court later this month.
