Suspect Fatally Shot By Deputy Identified
STOCKTON (CBS13) -- The suspect who was shot and killed by a San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputy on Tuesday was identified Wednesday as a parolee at large out of Arizona.
Kevin James Jackson, 47, tried to flee from the deputy, who wasn't identified, in a railyard truck after a foot pursuit, but the deputy shot him while clinging to hood of the truck. The deputy then fell to the ground and had to be hospitalized. He's still in the hospital for observation, the sheriff's department said.
Jackson failed to report to his parole officer in Arizona after being released from prison. He has an extensive criminal history in both Arizona and California, according to the sheriff's department.
Investigators have been in contact with law enforcement agencies in Stanislaus County and in Reno to look at additional crimes that may have been committed in those jurisdictions by Jackson and Ashley Marie Cartwright, 25. Cartwright was with Jackson on Tuesday and was arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges of theft and possession of stolen property.
