COPPEROPOLIS – A suspect in a high-speed motorcycle chase was found hiding in a chicken coop in Calaveras County Wednesday night, deputies said.

Around 9:30 p.m., a Calaveras County deputy tried to stop a motorcyclist on Reeds Turnpike near Copper Town Square in Copperopolis due to a tail light not working.

But the motorcyclist took off by driving across Highway 4 onto Hodson Road, where deputies said the rider reached 80 mph.

The motorcycle driver continued to Little John Road, reaching 90 mph and eventually driving on the wrong side of the road once reaching Quail Hill Road.

Deputies said the rider drove the wrong way down Arrowhead Street, which is a one-way street, and put a vehicle traveling in the correct direction in danger. That driver was able to pull off the road after seeing emergency vehicle lights.

The rider then made it into a dirt lot near the Rocket Gas station where they drove through a traffic barrier, preventing the deputy from continuing the pursuit.

But officers with the California Highway Patrol found the motorcycle in Tuolumne County. Officers then told Calaveras County deputies that the rider entered back into Calaveras County on O'Bryne's Ferry Road and entered the Copper Meadow subdivision.

Thanks to the Stanislaus County Aviation Unit, the rider was followed and seen parking the motorcycle and jumping a fence into a backyard on Copper Crest Drive.

After searching the backyard, the suspect was found hiding in a chicken coop. The suspect, who deputies identified as Jacob Schulte, complied with commands and was eventually arrested.

Deputies searched the chicken coop, where they say they found nearly 3.5 grams of methamphetamine.

Schulte was booked into jail on multiple charges.
