Hells Angels Shooting Suspect Not Found After Stockton Standoff
STOCKTON (CBS13) -- Stockton and San Jose law enforcement officers cleared the scene of a standoff in French Camp after a search for a suspect connected to a murder at a Hells Angels funeral turned up nothing.
The Stockton Police Department helped Bay Area officers serve a search warrant near the intersection of McDougald Boulevard and Ishi Goto Street, which was closed off for hours as police searched for 38-year-old Steve Ruiz, the suspect in the murder of 52-year-old fellow biker Steve Tausan at a funeral for Hells Angels leader Jethro Pettigrew.
Ruiz and Tausan fought just before the shooting, authorities said. Investigators initially speculated that Ruiz may have been kidnapped or killed by other members of the motorcycle gang after the October 15 shooting but later announced that they knew Ruiz is still alive and actively evading authorities.
The Stockton Police Department said no suspect was located at the French Camp home after the 12-hour standoff and the whereabouts of Ruiz are currently unknown.
Pettigrew was killed in late September in a shootout between biker gangs in Sparks, Nevada. San Francisco police arrested 53-year-old Ernesto Manuel Gonzalez, an alleged member of the Vagos biker gang, a few days later.
