STOCKTON – Almost two years after a shooting at a Stockton park killed a 17-year-old high school student, police said they have arrested a suspect.

The shooting happened at Unity Park, which is across the street from Cesar Chavez High School, on the afternoon of April 12, 2023.

Two students were off campus during school hours at the park when the shooting occurred.

Police said they found a 17-year-old boy who was shot at the scene and a 16-year-old boy who appeared to have been pistol-whipped. The 17-year-old, Thai Khin, died at the hospital.

The Stockton Unified School District said the boys were Chavez High students.

Police said Wednesday they identified 21-year-old Guillermo Lopez Jr. as the suspect. They said he was arrested Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals Task Force in Hayward and booked into jail.
