Suspect Arrested In Shooting Of Federal Agent
NEWARK, Calif. (AP) — A 61-year-old man has been arrested in the shooting and wounding of an off-duty federal officer outside the officer's Newark home.
Police say Dennis Bagwell of Piedmont was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop in Union City on Tuesday, hours after the 6 a.m. shooting.
Police have not released a possible motive for the shooting, describing it as random. It did not occur during any type of official enforcement action.
The unidentified 61-year-old victim is an officer with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency assigned to San Francisco International Airport.
He was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. His family asked that his condition not be released.
