Suspect Arrested In Sacramento For Massacre Of Mexican City Officials In 2000
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A suspect wanted in the massacre of Mexican city officials in 2000 was arrested in Sacramento Tuesday.
The U.S. Marshals service says 53-year-old Genaro Olaguez allegedly used heavy weapons to kill a commissioner and seven other city leaders in Sinaloa, Mexico in May, 2000.
The Mexican government asked for assistance from the U.S. in locating Olaguez, who was believed to have fled to the country.
Authorities learned Olaguez was residing with family in the Sacramento area and was picked up in the 2500 block of Grove Street.
He attempted to provide false identification, but investigators were able to positively identify him.
Olaguez also has an outstanding warrant in San Joaquin County for growing marijuana and theft of utility services.
He was booked into Sacramento County Jail and will be deported back to Mexico to stand trial.
