Survivor Of Deadly Elk Grove Crash Details Horrific Scene
ELK GROVE (CBS13) - One man who walked away from a deadly crash on Interstate 5 in Elk Grove on Sunday talked with CBS13 on Monday about how it all unfolded.
"The first I see the car off the road, and the next thing it's like that," Ryan Yan said of how quickly it all happened.
Just like that - four people would be killed.
"I saw the glass, all the rocks and dust, it fly over," Yan said.
Yan and his cousin were the only two people to walk away from the deadly crash. While officers investigate the cause, they say an Expedition carrying nine people was traveling south on Interstate 5 on Sunday afternoon when it suddenly went veering into oncoming traffic, rolling onto a Honda Accord and hitting Yan's small SUV.
"The car flipped over on the freeway, and then the cars kind of spin, and it hit on the passenger side," Yan said.
Yan, who was headed back from a fishing trip, said there was no way to avoid he could avoid the crash. Three people were killed in the Expedition; six others were badly injured. The family was likely headed back to Lathrop from Yuba City after the annual Sikh Parade.
The older driver in the Honda Accord was also killed. His wife is in critical condition.
"It's very sad, and lucky that I'm alive," Yan said.
In an instant four people were killed and a father of four realized just how precious life is.
"I feel really sad for those families … and there's nothing I can do about it, you know?" Yan said.
