Surfer Attacked By Shark Near Humboldt Bay
EUREKA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a man was bitten by a shark while surfing off the Northern California coast.
The injury was considered minor, and he was expected to recover.
Samoa Peninsula Fire District Chief Dale Unea says the man was near Humboldt Bay close to Eureka on Sunday morning when he was attacked and bitten on the upper left thigh.
He was able to paddle to shore and was alert and conscious when rescue crews got to the scene around 8:45 a.m.
Unea says other surfers had wrapped the wound and were keeping the man warm. He was taken to a hospital.
The AP was not immediately able to confirm his identity. Another surfer, Scott Stephens, survived a shark attack in the same area last year.
