River Boat Patrols Step Up Enforcement For Start Of Summer
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - With the Fourth of July holiday right around the corner, law enforcement officers are stepping up their presence on Sacramento area rivers.
Patrol boats were out on the water Saturday afternoon, looking for people breaking the law.
They were saturating the Sacramento River with their crews, checking up on anyone out on the water.
They'll be stopping boats, looking for violations such as if any children under the age of 13 aren't wearing life jackets.
They'll also be looking for anyone operating a boat while intoxicated. They will also do boat safety inspections on shore, basically just making sure everyone out on the river is aware of how to have fun safely.
"If the boat commits a violation, we'll do an enforcement stop, and during that stop we'll make sure they have all the necessary equipment for their boat," a Sacramento police officer said on Saturday. "So far today, everyone's been very law-abiding, very safe."
The cooler weather kept the crowd smaller than normal Saturday, but officers will still be patrolling the water well into the evening.
