Suicidal Man Reportedly Rams Police Car, Sets House On Fire

MODESTO (CBS13) -- There is not much left of a home that was set on fire overnight in Modesto.

The incident began at around 6 p.m. Thursday, according to Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputies. They say a suspect was sitting in his car at Grayson and Crows Landing Roads with a zip gun pointed at his chest, threatening to kill himself.

Deputies tried to convince the man to surrender peacefully, but the man drove off, ramming a deputy's car in the process. A short time later, emergency crews received the call that a home on Avenue A in Modesto had caught fire. When crews arrived, they found the suspect on the roof of a neighboring home and took him into custody.

The home, which sustained extensive damage, belongs to a family member of the suspect.

The suspect's name has not yet been released.
