Study Finds Ocean Garbage Is Making Its Way Into Seafood
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A new study has found ocean garbage is making its way into the seafood we buy.
The study was conducted by the University of California at Davis and Hasanuddin University in Indonesia.
Researchers found that one-fourth of the fish sold at sampled markets in California and Indonesia had man-made ocean garbage in their guts.
Researchers say the garbage found in fish for sale in Indonesia was plastic debris.
Most of the garbage in fish sold in California markets was fibers. Researchers think the fibers may have come from dumped wastewater from California washing machines.
