Students Worried About Corinthian Colleges Sales, Possible Closures
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Students are wondering what will happen to their classes and credits as dozens of colleges are about to be sold and some are closed down for good.
Douglas Washington is studying to be a medical assistant at Heald College in Rancho Cordova. That campus is now up for sale.
"I am really nervous," he said. "Hopefully when it sells it doesn't affect the school itself, they keep the same programs, keep everybody going."
The Rancho Cordova campus, along with 85 other Corinthian colleges across the country are looking for potential buyers.
Multiple state and federal investigations took a look at the company's business practices, and allege Corinthian falsified job placement data and altered grades and attendance in marketing claims to prospective students.
Kursten Russell is concerned a new owner of the Roseville Heald College campus she attends could bring new changes that would affect if and when she graduates.
"It's pretty important, because otherwise I'll have wasted time and money that I could have spent elsewhere," she said.
CBS13 received a statement from the chairman and chief officer that reads:
"This agreement allows our students to continue their education and helps minimize the personal and financial issues that affect our 12,000 employees and their families. It also provides a blueprint for allowing most of our campuses to continue serving their students and communities under new ownership."
A spokesman says it could be months before a buyer is found and any changes take place.
None of the Sacramento area campuses are among the 12 Corinthian Colleges is closing.
