Student Questioned After School Threats At Ponderosa High
SHINGLE SPRINGS -- Parents of students at Ponderosa High School in Shingle Springs say they are furious at the way school officials handled a shooting threat on campus.
CBS 13 obtained an email that was sent out by school officials to students and parents Tuesday morning addressing last week's shooting threat.
The email states a student allegedly threatened to pull a fire alarm at the school and then shoot students as they gathered out in the field.
The incident happened last week, according to school officials, who learned of the threat Tuesday morning after they received a tip from a student.
School administrators immediately called the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office to investigate the alleged threat.
The incident has several parents upset – they believe the school previously knew about the incident last week and didn't take any action until Tuesday.
A group of parents were seen protesting up the street from Ponderosa High School, carry signs asking for more transparency and oversight from higher-ups.
"He could have come back with guns and shot up the school. This is unbelievably ridiculous not to notify the parents until today," said Kevai Floyd, who has a daughter attending Ponderosa High School.
But students say they aren't too worried about the threats.
One student says "it's only around finals kids get stressed out or try and get out of finals and it's just a method for them to get out of it."
Another student says he isn't surprised at the threats, which he says happen at least once a semester.
The student was taken in by El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies for questioning Tuesday.
School administrators say the student later admitted the threats were a joke.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office cannot confirm whether the student faces any charges.
