Stockton Sunday School Teacher Arrested For Child Porn, Molestation
STOCKTON (CBS13) - A Sunday school teacher at a Stockton church has been arrested on child pornography and molestation charges.
Police say the victim is a 13-year-old girl, and say there might be other victims out there.
The suspect worked as a volunteer until recently being hired, and was arrested after a month and a half on the job.
Presentation Catholic Church hired Paul Sanfilippo in August to work a few hours a week in the religious education department. He's listed as a contact for a youth ministry program that meets once a week.
Friday, Stockton police arrested the 38-year-old on criminal charges.
"Investigators were able to gather enough evidence to arrest the suspect for possessing child pornography and child molestation," said Stockton police Officer Joseph Silva.
Police aren't saying much about the alleged crimes because it's early in the investigation. However, they involve a 13-year-old girl whose identity officers are protecting.
Late last week officers interviewed Sanfilippo and by Monday morning he bailed out of jail.
No one answered the door at his family's Stockton home.
Police want parents and children to see Sanfilippo's picture, because he had access to a large number of children, detectives urge other possible victims to come forward.
Church leaders say Sanfilippo has since resigned from his position.
