Stockton Norteno Gang Members Targeted In 'Operation Family Feud'
STOCKTON (CBS13) - A nearly six-month operation targeting wanted gang members in Stockton resulted in the arrest of 30 Nortenos, police said Thursday.
The arrests were for gun trafficking, drugs and other violent crimes.
On Thursday, the department along with the FBI and state investigators showed off the guns and drugs seized during the almost six-month crackdown dubbed "Operation Family Feud."
Police say during the last year they've seen a spike in gang violence. Almost half of the city's 63 murders are gang-related.
Officers say Norteno gang members are targeting each other as well as innocent victims.
"These gangs have been directly involved with or responsible for many crimes in the city of Stockton," Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones said. "They range from firearms trafficking to narcotics trafficking, burglaries, robberies and shootings."
During the crackdown, officers, with the help of the CHP, were able to stop a dozen gang members before they carried out a planned home invasion.
The police department says the series of raids is just one step to curbing crime and that officers will continue to go after other street gangs in the city.
