Stockton Man Stops Potential Kidnapping
STOCKTON (CBS13) - A Stockton neighborhood is on edge Friday night after an attempted kidnapping.
The two girls were walking home from school when police say they were attacked and almost kidnapped.
A neighbor man heard those screams and ran out to help.
"I was shocked, I didn't know exactly what happened," said Jorge Tellez.
Tellez had no idea he was about to stop a possible kidnapping.
"I just saw the girls right there, they were fighting," Tellez.
Stockton police say a woman approached the girls and tried to steal their camera.
As the girls struggled to get away, a man in a Chevy Impala tried to grab them into the car.
Tellez couldn't quite figure out what was happening.
"I don't know if they were pulling the girls, if they were trying to get them in the car, or they were fighting for the camera," said Tellez.
He scared the suspects away, and the girls ran home.
One of their mothers called police.
"They did the right thing by screaming and got the attention of someone in the neighborhood who then came out and was able to get the suspects out of the area," said Stockton Police Officer Joe Silva.
But Friday, neighbors are on alert, concerned about a potential kidnapper.
Tellez's children won't be playing out front anymore.
"It's scary, now I tell my wife be careful with the kids," said Tellez.
Worry is now plaguing the South Stockton community, but Tellez knows this situation could have had a very different ending if he wasn't home to hear those screams.
"I just did what I think was right," said Tellez.
Even after the suspected kidnappers got away, Tellez tried to chase after them, but couldn't track them down. As for the girls, police say they are doing just fine.
