Stockton Man Killed In Deadly Crash At End Of Two-County Pursuit

STOCKTON (CBS13) — A family is in mourning after a police pursuit that started as a traffic stop left one man dead after it ended.

Sol Eichner, 29, allegedly led police on the pursuit from San Andreas to Stockton in a Mercedes Benz that crashed and killed the driver in another car, who may have never seen the suspect coming.

Eichner was arrested after a good Samaritan stopped him from running away.

That good Samaritan was Rick Fernandez. He heard the collision from inside his business.

"It's a horrible experience, it really is," he said. "I'm just pretty shook up still. Just thinking about it you know."

One man laid lifeless inside a Honda, his seatbelt still on.

Police say Eichner caused the crash, and open beer cans inside his car allegedly spilled out upon impact.

Fernandez says he stopped Eichner from trying to leave the scene.

"He didn't seem like he was hurt at all," he said.

California Highway Patrol officers first tried pulling Eichner over in San Andreas before he took them on a pursuit into Stockton, where they lost sight of him and called off the chase.

Eichner allegedly never stopped until it was too late.
