Stockton City Manager, Police Chief Resign

STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) -- The city of Stockton has a couple of openings after the city manager and the police chief announced their resignations on the same day.

The Stockton Record reports that after City Manager Bob Deis announced his resignation on Wednesday, about two hours later Police Chief Blair Ulring said he would resign as well.

Deis said he was stepping down as city manager for personal reasons. His last day on the job would be sometime in March.

Ulring has said in the past that he would be forced to retire if he didn't get a raise to offset other benefit cuts. The Stockton City Council voted against raising his salary earlier this month.

Ulring's resignation takes effect Aug. 31.
