Stockton All Ears For 'Iron' Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson has not always been kind to ears.
As a matter of fact, it was on this day in 1997 when he was banned from boxing for biting the ear of Evander Holyfield – not once, but twice – during a bizarre match on June 28, 1997 billed as "The Sound and the Fury."
Tyson lost the match due to disqualification and was fined $3 million for his in-ring antics. Although the Nevada State Athletic Commission revoked Tyson's boxing license in the aftermath, the ban would not be permanent and he would be re-instated into boxing a year later.
Fast forward to 2014. Tyson has seemingly learned his lesson and is now looking to soothe ears instead of biting them with his stage show "Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth" set for Oct. 2 at Stockton's Bob Hope Theater.
Directed by filmmaker Spike Lee, the show is described as a "rare, personal look inside the life and mind of one of the most feared men ever to wear the heavyweight crown."
Mike Tyson has plenty of fodder for his stage production – everything from the highs and lows of his boxing career, to his marriages and divorces, the creative ways he spent his fortune and his time in prison for the 1991 rape of then-18-year-old Desiree Washington.
And of course, there's his comeback.
Tickets go on sale on Friday, July 11. More details are available here.
No word yet, according to the theater, how much a night with Iron Mike Tyson will cost. Stay with us for updates on this story.
