Stinson Beach Restrictions To Be Lifted
STINSON BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- Restrictions on water access off Stinson Beach following a great white shark sighting are set to be lifted.
Beachgoers on Friday will again be allowed to swim into deeper waters.
They were limited to wading in the surf zone after the shark -- between 8 and 10 feet long -- was seen offshore by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter on Sunday.
Parks spokeswoman Alex Picavet told the Marin Independent Journal restrictions could be imposed again if there are any additional sightings.
The offshore area extending from Bodega Bay down to Big Sur is known as the "Red Triangle" for its high number of great white shark sightings. The waters draw them because of the rich supply of food, including sea lions, elephant seals and whale carcasses.
