UPDATED: Statewide Amber Alert For 2-Week-Old Sunnyvale Baby Lifted, Father Arrested
SUNNYVALE (CBS13) - A statewide Amber Alert for a 2-week-old has been lifted Wednesday after the father was arrested by Mexican authorities, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
Mexican authorities reportedly stopped 22-year-old Mesut Guler at a checkpoint. After contacting U.S. Border Patrol, they were notified of a $1 million warrant out for Guler's arrest.
At 10:24 p.m. Tuesday, police received a call that the infant, Henry Guler-Romero, had been taken, and when they went to the apartment of the family in the 900 block of Helen Avenue, they learned that earlier in the day, Henry's parents got into an argument and Mesut took him and left in a rage. He then told the infant's mother that he was leaving the state with they boy, say police.
Police say the man has made threats like this before.
The last contact made with the Mesut was at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
The two were last seen riding in a brown 2004 GMC Envoy with California license place 6HIL892. The vehicle has a large eagle decal in the back window.
CHP says the Mesut's cell phone's location was traced to the San Diego area at around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
