State Sen. Ron Calderon Dodges Questions About Federal Bribery Investigation
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — State Sen. Ron Calderon dodged questions about an FBI investigation that is reportedly around bribery charges.
Calderon is accused of accepting thousands of dollars in bribes, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Al Jazeera America.
Federal agents say they caught Calderon red-handed accepting about $88,000 in bribes from an undercover agent posing as a Hollywood producer.
Also mentioned in the 124-page document was Calderon's brother Tom, and his children Jessica and Zachary.
CBS13 has been on this story since it broke five months ago when the FBI raided Sen. Calderon's office.
Calderon's attorney chided the feds on the reveal of the information in his case.
State Sen. President Pro-Tem Darrell Steinberg's office released the following statement:
"Make no mistake: the assertions made in certain conversations described in this affidavit bear zero resemblance to reality and are a universe apart from how the Legislature that we know and honor every day conducts the people's business."
