State Sen. Calderon Allegedly Accepted Bribes From Undercover FBI Agents
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A state senator, whose capitol office was raided by federal agents in June, is now reportedly facing bribery charges.
The FBI searched the offices of Democratic Sen. Ron Calderon on June 4 in Sacramento, and at the time would not disclose the reason for the investigation.
Now we know -- to some degree -- what federal agents may have dug up inside the half dozen boxes they carried out.
An investigation by Al Jazeera America has uncovered an alleged bribery scheme. Reportedly, Calderon is accused of accepting more than $60,000 in bribes from undercover FBI agents.
A search was also done at the state senator's offices in Southern California.
Calderon's attorney, Mark Geragos, said at the time that the feds should be "ashamed of themselves."
Now, with the alleged charges looming, the Calderon camp remains silent.
This isn't the first dip in hot water for Calderon. Our sister station in Los Angeles looked into an all-expense paid junket to Hawaii the senator took.
The last time there was a similar raid was in 1988 during a corruption investigation.
