State Offering Half-Off Amnesty On Unpaid Traffic Tickets

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- State officials hope they can generate millions of dollars in revenue and thousands of unpaid traffic tickets off the books with an incentive aimed at long overdue citations.

California Superior Courts in all 58 California counties will offer a 50-percent discount on certain traffic tickets that were due at least three years ago. To qualify, all of the following conditions must be met:

- The outstanding traffic case was due to be paid in full before January 1, 2009.
- You either failed to appear in court or failed to pay in full.
- The last date you made a payment was on or before January 1, 2009.
- You don't owe restitution to a victim on any case within the country where the traffic case was filed.
- You have no outstanding misdemeanor or felony warrants within the county where the traffic ticket was filed.

Each county may impose additional requirements. Parking tickets, DUI citations and reckless driving cases are not eligible.

The incentive will take effect beginning January 1, 2012 and will last for six months.
