Staal Tells Reporters He'll Miss Rangers' Game 5 Versus Capitals
WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBSNewYork) -- Marc Staal made the call to miss Game 4 at Madison Square Garden after suffering yet another setback.
On Friday, a downbeat Staal told reporters he'll miss Game 5 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals in Washington and is unsure when he'll return to the Rangers' lineup. It's entirely possible that he will miss the remainder of the series against the Capitals.
Staal took a puck to the face in early March. Since returning in Game 3, lingering eye issues have resurfaced. Steve Eminger has taken Staal's spot in the meantime.
"You get excited to get in that one, and to have to sit and watch the next is certainly not easy," Staal stated.
Staal said there wasn't much improvement in his vision between days.
"Not much. I'll wake up tomorrow and go at it again," he explained.
Staal is unable to come up with an estimation on when he'll return to the lineup.
"I wake up in the morning and take it from there. I couldn't speculate one way or another."
Rangers fans are hoping his return will come sooner rather than later, because Staal is a key member of their blue line when healthy.
