Sports Blog: Suspense For Levin Over, He's In The U.S. Open
Thanks to the quirks of the world golf rankings, Spencer Levin will be in the field for the 2012 U.S. Open.
Even though he missed the cut at the St. Jude's Classic this last weekend, he moved from 61st to 60th in the rankings, receiving an automatic bid to the national championship.
It's well deserved for the Sacramento native in a year where he's made some noise on the PGA tour. The chain smoking Levin is joined by Nick Watney as the only area golfers playing at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.
This is Levin's second appearance in the U.S. Open. He played at Shinnecock Hills in 2004, shooting a 69 in his first round. He eventually finished tied for 13th place, an impressive debut for any golfer.
