Spookiest Places In Sacramento

Sacramento is one of the oldest cities in California, and is home to many spooky places. Its history is filled with natural disasters and human caused trauma, making it the perfect place to find ghosts and the paranormal. These phenomena happen both inside buildings, and in outdoor settings. The restless spirits of Sacramento wander the area, giving many opportunities to experience spooky adventures.

The Old City Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Sacramento, and was established in 1849. It is the resting place for society members from all walks of life, and is built to reflect the trends of the time. It is a peaceful Victorian garden setting with grand avenues and many sweeping pathways wandering through gardens, statues, and grave markers. This is an excellent place to explore the history of Sacramento, and to encounter the wanderings of a former resident. The cemetery offers free walking tours, and self-guided tours.

Old Sacramento State Historic Park is located in the heart of historic Sacramento. This area is home to the Old Sacramento Tunnels, which are said to be the most haunted location in the city. The area sits near the confluence American and Sacramento rivers. This sits on one of the major routes to the gold fields during the California gold rush era. Flooding in the 1850's and 1860's brought about the monumental task of raising the city above the flood plain. This created the Old Sacramento Tunnels. Currently, there are tours offered of portions of the tunnels, operated by the Historic Old Sacramental Foundation.

The historical California State Library is built in 1850, and is above the Old Sacramento Tunnels. Both visitors and employees report that there is a resident ghost that wanders the book isles. This non-threatening entity is an elderly gentleman who appears to interact with the books and documents. The library offers tours to share its amazing architecture, and past.

The Sacramento Theater Company is haunted by several former thespians and theater workers. These entities are peaceful, and can be seen in various locations in the theater. There are six known ghosts, and they have been named. The busiest time for the paranormal here is prior to a show, as the actors prepare, or when the theater is empty. These have been confirmed by both clairvoyants and paranormal investigators. This site is listed in several paranormal listings locally and nationally.

Paradise Beach is located along the American River, in the American River Parkway. The park is located on and oxbow bend in the river, where many swim and play in the water. The beach is home to a male ghost that is believed to be the spirit of a man who drowned in the river. The area is home to many different entities from the 1800's. The best time to hunt for these ghosts is after sunset and before dawn. It is not a place to go alone, and is a great place for a spooky experience.
