Spokesman For California Prison Guards Union Dies
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- The union representing state prison guards says its top communications officer has died.
JeVaughn Baker, a spokesman for the California Correctional Peace Officers Association, said Monday that Lance Corcoran died late Sunday at his home in Sacramento but says he did not know the cause of death.
Corcoran, who was 47, held a variety of roles in more than 20 years as a union officer. He served as director of legislative affairs, chief communications officer and executive vice president.
Before joining the union leadership, Corcoran was a guard at California Correctional Center, Susanville.
The union represents more than 30,000 correctional officers in adult and juvenile prisons, as well as parole agents who supervise convicts after their release.
