Homicide investigation underway near south Sacramento apartment complex
SACRAMENTO — A homicide investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed near a south Sacramento apartment complex on Thursday.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said officers went to the Willow Glen Apartments on La Mancha Way, just south of the Florin Road exit off Highway 99. The call came in just before 3 p.m. regarding the shooting.
Investigators said a woman started banging on an apartment door saying someone had been shot at a nearby park. The person inside the unit then called for help.
When deputies arrived, they located the victim but also determined that the woman who had banged on the door was the shooter.
"We don't believe she's a suspect. She is cooperating. [Detectives] are interviewing her," said Sgt. Amar Ghandi, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office.
Investigators said the suspect and victim knew each other and were engaged in an argument. They are now going through nearby cameras in an attempt to locate more evidence.
It was the third homicide in the county just this week.
